A commission for the new hospital’s entrance

As part of the Chase Farm Hospital redevelopment a new large-scale artwork has been commissioned within the building’s double height entrance area.  Situated in the first space that visitors encounter the commission will be an important part of the hospital’s experience and identity.

As the UK’s first fully digital hospital, the artwork will be a visual touchstone for the first 10 - 20yrs of its life; marking the aspiration for a more patient focussed environment and therapeutic atmosphere. The art commission is supported by the Royal Free Charity.

The Selection Panel decided that Anya’s approach and thinking was best suited to the new commission and she would create something exciting and bold. They could see how enthusiastic and engaged she was with the project already, and how her ideas and approach could suit the space.

We managed the artist commissioning process, including advising on the contract between the client and artist/gallery for the design development and fabrication and installation stages.

The fabrication and installation was managed by Thomas Dane Gallery and the artist.

Anya Gallaccio was appointed and has produced a sculptural wall piece in faience. This tactile work, wrapping around the corner, incorporates imprints from limbs and hands, with the intention that it will be touched.

Anya is represented by Thomas Dane Gallery, for more information on her work see www.thomasdanegallery.com

The artwork was completed in early 2019.
